About Kangra Paintings
Kangra Paintings, an illustrious school of Pahadi Art originating in the 18th century,
flourished under the patronage of Rajput rulers, notably reaching its zenith under
Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch. Known for their lifelike realism, Kangra artworks
intricately weave elements of nature—creepers, trees, rivers—with a palette
predominantly adorned in various shades of green. Meticulously crafted, these
paintings exude a feminine grace through delicate portrayals of women, while later
evolving to incorporate dramatic scenes of thunderstorms and heavy rains.
Artisans of Kangra solely employ natural pigments extracted from vegetables and
stones, occasionally incorporating gold and silver powder as needed. Vibrant hues of
red, yellow, and green, symbolizing vitality and spiritual devotion, adorn these
timeless masterpieces. Inspired by the Bhakti movement, Kangra paintings often
depict the divine love between Radha and Krishna, drawing from revered scriptures

like the Bhagavata Purana; and Gita-Govinda to express profound spiritual
experiences.
At Himflavours, we proudly showcase authentic Kangra artworks, each bearing the
esteemed G.I. tag, a testament to their genuine origin and unmatched craftsmanship.
These serene expressions of life & beauty continue to captivate hearts with their
timeless elegance and profound simplicity.
