The district is popularly known as “Veerbhumi” due to its significant contribution to the armed forces. It has the highest population density as well as the highest literacy rate in the state. Hamirpur town, the district headquarters, has emerged as an important educational hub, hosting premier institutions such as the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, and Himachal Pradesh Technical University. The district also boasts one of the highest road densities in the country.

Baba Balak Nath Temple
This temple is dedicated to Baba Balak Nath, considered an incarnation of Lord Kartikeya. The shrine is located in a natural cave at Deothsidh in Chakmoh village, approximately 45 km from Hamirpur. It is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the region, attracting large numbers of devotees, especially during the Chaitra fair.

Located about 24 km from Hamirpur town, this historic temple is situated at one of the highest points in the district. It is widely revered as a Kul Devi temple and attracts pilgrims throughout the year.

Sujanpur Tira Fort
Built in 1758 by Raja Abhay Chand of the Katoch dynasty, this magnificent palace-fort was home to Raja Sansar Chand — patron of the famed Kangra School of miniature paintings. Its grand entrance and the Gauri Shankar Temple within are breathtaking.
Nadaun Fort (Amter-Nadaun Fort)
Located in Nadaun, this fort was once the residence of Raja Sansar Chand. Positioned atop a hill, it is known for its artistic frescoes and offers insights into the history of the Katoch dynasty.
